About Me

“to sit in the shade on a fine day, and look upon verdure, is the most perfect refreshment.”

Jane Austen (1775-1817) from Mansfield Park.

ABOUT ME

I used to be a television journalist but traded in the autocue and over-styled hair to work full-time in our Hampshire garden.

The plot is roughly 40m x 30m. The back of the house faces due south. When my lovely husband (MLH) and I moved here four years ago there was a shed, a patio, two huge cherry trees, a neglected apple tree and two dense thickets of hazel and birch.

I am not a professional gardener. I use my instinct, read books, follow Monty religiously on Gardeners’ World and if I still don’t know what to do I ring my Mum who is the best gardener I know.

This blog will not tell you what to do. It tells you what I do, what I get right and what goes wrong. I hope you enjoy seeing how we are transforming our plain patch of earth into a relaxing, energising, distracting, exasperating sometimes exhausting but ultimately rewarding garden.
